In this week long class, 6 days, you will start with rough lumber and finish with a settee (or bench) that is very comfortable has carved arm rest, a scroll on the front and a whale tail on the back, a carved and contoured seat that you’ll join the legs and back rest to with different species of wood for strength and comfort. I recommend some chair making experience prior to taking this class.
Previous woodworking experience is helpful but not required. You’ll use hand tools, draw knife and spoke shave at a shaving horse (bench), hand planes a brace and bits for drilling as well as wood working machines the jointer and planer. The lath is used to make the leg tenons, armrest tenons and shape the legs. This class can be catered to what you want to learn the most and it can be mostly hand tools or power tools or a combination.
You’ll learn- design, wood selection, drying your own wood, sharpening carving tools, sight line layout and drilling by hand and eye and much more. My goal is for you to leave with the knowledge to make your own version or use these skills to make something completely different.
This is a fun experience in a rural setting, the shop is in a turn of the last century bank barn that inspires woodworking and creativeness.
